JONNY LEE MILLER DANGEROUS FLYING ENGLISHMAN
Johnny Lee Miller is a flying englishman giving his best for The Flying Scotsman. |
Englishman Jonny Lee Miller takes on Scottish bicyclist Graeme Obree who became known around the world as The Flying Scotsman for his refusal to medically enhance his biking speed, therefore designing his own machine for the best aerodynamics. |
Jonny had to get in shape to squeeze into the skin tight biking suit. |
“[It’s] A lot embarrassing, it’s there for a reason. It’s good motivation to do your sit-ups. If I had turned up looking really out of shape dressed in that skin suit that would’ve looked really rubbish.” |
Jonny who does all his own speed laps around the track in the film talks about how he trained. |
“I just spent a lot of time on a bike, changed my diet a bit. I mean also I do a lot of running as well so I tried to do that. Also I visited the National Velodrome in Manchester and had a few training sessions there just to know the little things about track riding as well, track etiquette and how it’s done. I picked up little tips here and there. If you’re not going fast enough the bike slides off because it’s about that steep in the bends. Yeah a couple of times your mind wanders and you’re tired and you’re just not going fast enough so yeah.” |
Since making The Flying Scotsman Jonny has become more devoted to biking, riding two hours a day, two to three times a week compared to before where he would just use a bike to get around London. The Flying Scotsman opens Friday in theaters. |
