JOHN LEGEND AND MARIAH CAREY LEAD SOUL TRAIN AWARD WINNERS
John Legend, Mariah Carey, and Destiny’s Child were the big winners at the 20th Annual Soul Train Awards which were held on Saturday, March 4th, in Los Angeles. Legend took home three awards including best R&B soul single male for “Ordinary People,” best R&B soul album male for Get Lifted, and the Sammy Davis Jr.Award for Entertainer of the Year. |
Singer and actor Jamie Foxx was also a recipient of the Quincy Jones Outstanding Career Achievement Award. Backstage Foxx shared his thoughts on winning the award. He said, |
“To be honest with you this is absolutely great. I feels like it is the beginning. I don’t want to feel like career achievement and then you know I’m going to go away somewhere in a cabin or something like that you know. But this is absolutely great. What we’re most proud about is the music actually being accepted and actually doing business. It could have looked to been it was going to be like a novelty, ‘Oh we’re gonna buy just because it cause it’s Jamie Foxx, we’ll see what it’s all about.’ But we actually worked very hard on this record, I mean from Tank to Timbaland and all the different people that worked on the record. So that’s the thing that we’re most proud about.” |
Newcomer Chris Brown got his feet wet as he won his first major award. The Virginia-native won the best R&B soul or rap new artist. The singer shared his thoughts on winning the award. He said, |
“It’s great. Great accomplishment. I just thank God for this blessing. Just last year I think I was at home trying to balance my school work and basketball practice. So now it’s just like alright trying to take over the world.” |
The 20th Annual Soul Train Awards will air in syndication later this month. |
