Singer and songwriter Joe made a triumphant return to the charts last week. His first new album in four years, Ain’t Nothin’ Like Me, debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200 pop chart and at Number One on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart after selling more than 98,000 copies its first week in stores. The latest single from the project is “If I Was Your Man.” |
Joe, who is currently on tour with Brian McKnight and Sunshine Anderson, has collaborated with a lot of rappers throughout his career including 50 Cent, the G-Unit, the late Big Pun, and Mystikal. His latest album features even more collaborations with rappers including songs with Nas, Papoose, Yung Joc, and Fabolous. |
“Well I think part of the reason is cause I connect with hip hop, you know what I’m sayin’? I kind of grew up in hip hop. One of the first records, I had a chance to listen to was Eric B & Rakim, ‘Paid In Full.’ So I mean I kind of go back then you know with hip hop. And now to today when it comes to R&B most of those guys used to listen to all the old school artists, you know what I mean? So our generation never really had those old school artitsts, not my generation, the generation after me. They didn’t have the Marvin Gayes, the Stevies and the Michaels when they were in their prime, you know what I mean? So now who they got in their prime is Chris Brown and Ne-Yo and Usher and Omarion. So those are the guys in their primes right now and even Usher has kind of fallen because the new cats are coming in. I looked at myself, you know what, I’mma sustain, I’mma sustain what I do.” |
