JIMMY JAM AND TERRY LEWIS TO CELEBRATE 25 YEARS

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis first met when they both were members of the Morris Day lead group, The Time. The duo quickly formed a connection and began producing hits for the Tabu Label in eighties including classics by Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle. The duo set up their Flyte Tyme recording studio in Minneapolis and began to crank out hits for Janet Jackson, S.O.S. Band. Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, Patti Austin, Johnny Gill, K-Ci & JoJo, Patti LaBelle, Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson, Shaggy, and others. |
The duo soon launched their Interscope-distribted label, Perspective Records, and released a Grammy-nominated project from Sounds of Blackness and a critically acclaimed debut from Mint Condition. |
“First of all we don’t have the desire to not be with each other. I think if one of us decided it was time to call it quits, we would just both call it quits. You know so that’s part of it but it’s built on respect. We respect each other. It’ll be actually 35 years that I’ve known Terry next year. And twenty five years that we’ve had our company next year.” |
Jam and Lewis relocated to Los Angeles in 2004 and continued their hit making ways. The duo has since recorded with Mariah Carey, Mya, New Edition, and others. |
