Martial arts master Jet Li really gave it his all in his final farewell film to anything resembling Kung Fu fighting in Fearless. The sequences were directed by The Matrix choreographer Wo Ping who Li says designed the ultimate location for his final fighting scenes. |
Li who at 43 years old still suffers from old injuries he’s incurred from his 24 years of real fighting on screen didn’t have much space to maneuver opposite his opponent on top of the perch and wound up falling 12 feet. To this day he still can’t figure out his aches and pains. |
“So he built up this, designed a different location for a fight. It’s quite difficult to fight on the real top of this perch. It’s very high. We have three of them to make them on screen look good.” |
Fearless is Li’s most personal film to date as it uses the art of Wushu which means to stop fighting. |
“By that moment I don’t feel I got hurt. It was just very painful but when I finished the movie a few months later I really got injured inside all the blood, something wrong inside. I went to the hospital and they did a lot of X-ray and check everything. Even today I’ve got something inside problem. It’s not the bone broken or something like that, that’s easy. Something’s wrong inside.” |
Jet Li hasn’t given up on movies completely. He plans on continuing to make action films such as the upcoming Rogue co-starring Jason Statham.rn |
“Fighting is the worst thing happen. The basic level is to use fighting to stop fighting. The second level is to use your knowledge, use your belief, your philosophy a lot of stuff to stop fighting before the real physical contact. The third level is show your honor, show our beliefs show your love to the enemy. Change your enemy to become your friend then you don’t need to fight. No enemy, become peace. I think that’s the philosophy behind physical contact that’s the total code of martial art.” |
