JENNIFER LOPEZ AND MARK ANTHONY SPICE UP EL CANTANTE PREMIER
Married superstars Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony wowed the crowds at the El Cantante premiere in New York. |
Seventies salsa star Hector Lavoe lived for the limelight so the late singer would’ve been overjoyed by the frenzied media reception given to Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez who play Lavoe and his wife Puchi at the New York premiere for El Cantante. |
The married megastars who arrived on Broadway greeted by a throng of fans and reporters say they were so proud of one another’s performance. |
“I couldn’t tell you how proud I am of her. Her performance is like nothing I’ve seen in the cinema for the past few years. Where she went I have no idea. It just baffles me. I’m so proud of her, so proud of tonight. I’m in the clouds right now. Jennifer: I mean for me one of the great things about making this film was getting to see Marc play Hector. I knew in my heart that he was the one to play him and that never wavered for me. So I’m excited and we’re very, very happy tonight.” |
Hector Lavoe spent a lifetime battling his drug addiction and his spirited wife who tried to save him from his demons. Director Leon Ichaso says despite Marc and Jennifer’s married bliss they didn’t hold back their volatile scenes on screen. |
“He didn’t hold back. He didn’t hold back and she didn’t want him to hold back. But not only Marc, there were times that a bouncer had to throw her out of the club and she spoke to the actor and said, ‘you’re the bouncer, OK I’m gonna hit you and you’re gonna hit me back. You’re gonna hold me and I’m gonna try to hit you back,’ and the guy was like livid. He says, ‘wow,’ and that’s the way it went. When he’d try to grab her to throw her out she’d smack him. And you know it comes across.” |
El Cantante was a labor of love for Anthony and Lopez who produced the film through her Nuyorican Productions. |
