Hip hop mogul Jay-Z will release his second album since coming out of retirement, American Gangster, on November 6th. The album features production by Diddy, No ID, Jermaine Dupri, the Neptunes, DJ Toomp and Sean C. & LV with guest appearances by Pharrell Williams, Beanie Sigel, and Lil Wayne |
The first single and video from the project was “Blue Magic.” Jay-Z will premiere the video for the set’s second single, “Roc Boys,” on Monday, November 5th. |
“Yeah I was drawn to the emotions of the film. And what I would do is like I’m watching the movie. I would put it on pause and take that scene or the emotion, not even the scene. The emotion from the scene and create an entire song about it. So what ended up happening at the end of the day I had a movie as well. I call it the indie film to American Gangster, the small budget version of it. You know cause it has a beginning, middle, end as well. It starts with a song called ‘Pray.’ You know a young guy who is a younger version of me looking into the game. And then midway through the album is a song called ‘Roc Boys,’ it’s like the height of success. And then the last song on the album is song called ‘Fallen,’ so it has an arc.” |
Jay-Z explained how he was inspired to record the new album after seeing a preview of Denzel Washington’s new movie, American Gangster. He said, |
