JANE FONDA ENFORCES THE RULES
Jane Fonda has rules to rescue her troubled teenage granddaughter in Georgia Rule. |
Jane Fonda is the namesake Georgia in Georgia Rule and her character is a no nonsense grandma who doesn’t take kindly to her granddaughter played by Lindsay Lohan breaking the rules of her household when she comes to visit for the summer. |
With every rule being broken there is a consequence, and Jane says she took secret pleasure in sticking a bar of soap in Lindsay’s mouth for not following Georgia’s rules. |
“And they’re pretty rigid rules partly because my life is a little bit out of control and this is alienated from my daughter who I haven’t seen in 13 years. The way I kind of hold it all together is with rules. You show up on time. If dinner is at six you’re there or you don’t eat. You don’t take the Lord’s name in vain or I stick a cake of soap in your mouth. That was really fun. In Monster-in-Law I got to slam Jennifer Lopez’ face in a cake and in this one I get to stick a bar of soap in Lindsay Lohan’s mouth. It was fun and I get to beat up a bad guy with a baseball bat. That was fun too.” |
Georgia Rule explores three generations of women coming together despite their age differences. Fonda says the film has a message about not standing on ceremony when it comes to family. |
“So one of the things I think that people will take away is the importance of saying I love you and letting each other know that., forgiveness and things like that. A whole big number of people have said they came out of the movie and called their mother.” |
Georgia Rule directed by Garry Marshall opens Friday in theaters. |
