JAMES MCAVOY PASSED OUT IN THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND
(VIDEO) The Last King of Scotland star James McAvoy couldn’t handle the stress and strain of the graphic torture scene. |
The last time we saw James McAvoy he was running around the forest dressed as a magical faun in The Chronicles of Narnia. In The Last King of Scotland he delves into more serious matters as the hand picked personal physician to Ugandan dictator Idi Amin played by Forest Whitaker. It’s the 1970s and McAvoy’s character has a taste for the women, not to mention one of Amin’s wives. However Amin doesn’t exactly suffer fools gladly and makes him pay for his betrayal in a very realistic torture scene. |
The torture scene had McAvoy strung up with meat hooks but he was directed not to scream so instead he chose a different method of showing his extreme pain and wound up fainting in the process. |
“The torture scene was the hardest day of the shoot really because we had a bombing in London and nobody could get through to families and friends and loved ones. It was terrifying and at the same time we had to film this ridiculous torture scene which felt so wrong at the time but we had to do it so we did it.” |
Director Kevin McDonald said that while James was out he had a very strange dream that he was riding on a bus with Idi Amin. The Last King of Scotland opens tomorrow in theaters.rn |
“When we did the first take and I passed out completely. In the script it says Nicolas refuses to scream even though he’s been tortured and I thought Nicolas is not that strong a person so he probably would scream. So I thought how could I not scream? If I don’t breathe because I’m in so much pain then I won’t be able to actually scream because there’s no breath to vocalize with so I did that and I just did that a little bit too long. And with the whole hysteria of the day and the chaos of that day it made me pass out.” |
