JACK WHITE AND ALICIA KEYS MAKE BOND HISTORY

Jack White, who helms White Stripes and The Raconteurs, has teamed up with Alicia Keys for the James Bond theme song, “Another Way To Die.” The movie, Quantum Of Solace, opens next month, and it features another breath-catching performance from Daniel Craig. |
“Another Way To Die” is unique on many different levels, and he talks about the song making history as a duet. |
“It just sort of fell into that. It fell into it being a duet, which is nice because it’s the first one in Bond history. It’s nice to be part of that. It’s hard to have a first for a franchise that’s been going on for so long.” |
White said he’s a fan of what Alicia Keys does, and notes she’s not just a pop singer. |
“She’s incredibly soulful, and she’s incredibly powerful with her voice. I think she takes a lot of chances too. She doesn’t really do this cookie cutter pop music. She puts things into her compositions that aren’t a safe way out. She’s taking control and taking a chance and forcing a lot of things into her songs that wouldn’t normally be on the radio, for instance. I like people like that. She’s immediately interesting to me, and then when we got together in the same room it was so inspiring. She’s so inspiring to be with, and you press stup and you’re like, ‘That’s – News alert: Alicia Keys can sing.'” |
While the pairing may seem strange to some, White said that the pop meets Alternative Rock angle leaves room for experimentation. |
“Usually something interesting happens when you take people from different realms or artists from different places and try to put them into something totally different. We’re both coming into the realm of Bond from different places, so we both have our eyes wide open to see where we’re going to go with it.” |
Jack White recently broke with The Raconteurs for a while, and Keys has another movie project she’s promoting with her role as one of the Boatwright sisters in The Secret Life Of Bees. |
