JACK JOHNSON GETS CURIOUS FOR GEORGE
Jack Johnson’s Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film ‘Curious George’ soundtrack has debuted on the Billboard 200 album at Number One. The album features tracks that both kids and parents will enjoy, and he recruited a bunch of his friends from Nick Acosta to Ben Haper and G-Love among others. |
The Hawaiian native told us that he didn’t change his style that much for the soundtrack and he doesn’t mind being kid friendly. |
“Not really. I’m a pretty simple guy. I think kids already relate a lot to the songs. That’s one kind of… I don’t know whether that’s a compliment or a dis, but I get that a lot, ‘Oh my kid loves it. It’s all I listen to,’ and stuff. So, I take it as a compliment.” |
Johnson, who is also a daddy, said that he trusts the honesty of his son and other kids in the neighborhood to tell whether or not his songs connect. So, is his son into Jack’s music? |
“Yeah, he is. I test out even my last record, and all this stuff because kids go all off of feel. They don’t know anything about trends yet or anything like that, so if something feels right they… It’s funny how it is. You can tell sometimes they’re too much into their Legos or whatever and you can’t try out a, ‘Here listen to this song.’ because they’re just focused. But if they’re into the mood and wanna…sometimes you’ll play and then they’ll be like — not just him but other kids I play music for, other friends — they’ll be like, ‘No, no.’ They’re real honest. I’ll start playing a song and they’ll say, ‘No, No, not that one.’ And then you kind of come back to it later and see if it works, if it was just a thing, and they tell you, ‘No, no, not again.’ You’re like, ‘Maybe this is not working. It’s just, kind of like, it’s not got the vibe. So they’re always real honest.” |
Jack Johnson’s Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film ‘Curious George’spawned the hit single, “Upside Down,” which is getting play across pop and rock formats. The film Curious George debuted at Number Three in its first weekend of release, and this week it made another 11 million dollars giving it a two week total of 29 million dollars. |
