IDRIS AND GABRIELLE GET ON THE JOB TRAINING
Part of an actor’s job is learning about the career of the character you’re playing. In Daddy’s Little Girls Idris Elba and Gabrielle Union didn’t need much preparation as they actually had similar vocations to their character’s jobs in real life. Idris plays a mechanic who owns his own auto-body shop and Gabrielle Union plays the lawyer who tries to win him custody of his children. |
Idris who was brought up in London says he tooled around a little with auto mechanics. |
“Actually one of my first jobs when I was about 15 years old, I was a tire fitter so I worked in an environment just like that with a boss just like that. So that was good for me to get back in there and do that. But that’s about it. My car goes wrong I send it in.” |
If it weren’t for getting bit by the acting bug Gabrielle Union says she could’ve been an attorney. |
“You know I was studying for the LSATs at UCLA my senior year when I got into acting so I have a pretty decent background in law. I watch a lot of Law and Order. I was a big L.A. Law fan. I’m so happy this acting thing has worked out so I didn’t ever have to the LSATs and then try to pass the bar and all of that. But yeah I have a love of justice. Back in the day I wanted to fight the good fight and be a defense attorney and fight for the underdog. Now I’d probably be doing probate or something. Something exciting like that.” |
Gabrielle actually graduated UCLA with honors and did some modeling to pay off her student loans. Idris Elba used to be a DJ before he became an actor under the moniker Big Driis the Londoner. |
