The Vans Warped Tour held their 15th Anniversary celebration on Sunday August 6th in Los Angeles Ca and a tour promoter Kevin Lyman brought together a lineup of acts who directly benefited after touring on The Warped Tour. The 15th Anniversary celebration featured performances from The Aggrolites, The All-American Rejects, Bad Religion, The Decaydance All Stars, Ice T and Body Count, Katy Perry, NOFX, Ozomatli, Pennywise, Rise Against and Underoath, as well as a special video appearance by blink-182. The event was filmed and will be released in a very special one-night-only national theater event where it will be featured in over 460 movie theaters on Thursday, September 17th. |
Artisan News caught up with Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz as well as Panic! at the Disco vocalist Brendon Uribe, who formed The Decaydance All Stars for Warped Tour’s 15th Anniversary, to get their thoughts on what Warped Tour has meant to their careers. |
“(Uribe) It means a lot. There were a lot of bands that I grew up listening to like Sublime, NoFx, Pennywise and they’ve been doing it and it’s been going for 15 years now and they’re still doing it. So, it keeps the dream alive for me personally. (Wentz) It’s fun to do in the Summer. Like Brendon said it’s a bunch of bands that we liked growing up so it’s cool to play with them even though they probably don’t know me. (Uribe) They don’t. No, they don’t know who we are and they don’t care who we are and that makes it more special. (Wentz) We have a 5 minute set for real. Four minutes, we’re playing a short set.” |
Legendary musician and actor, Ice T also talked about never forgetting his time spent on The Warped Tour and why he had to be a part of the 15th Anniversary celebration. |
“When Body Count first came out we were friends with Kevin Lyman because he used to be the guy at The Palace Theater, you know one of the early places we giged. We had a chance to go out on The Warped Tour and it was the first tour to connect with Extreme Sports, skateboarding to Hardcore Underground music. It was like going out on a camping trip. We had a good time and made a lot of friends and I met a lot of the pro bikers and all the Extreme Sports cats and just had a lot of good times out there on that tour. If you ever go on one of those tours you’ll never forget it. So, we got the call to do the show and said ‘Yeah, we gotta do that!’ So we’re here.” |
Rise Against also talked about being humbled to be asked to perform at The Warped Tour’s 15th Anniversary. |
“It’s definitely humbling to be considered worthy of that, that commemorates a full 15 years of thousands of bands that have been apart of this tour. To be one of those bands chosen to do it, it certainly lets us know that we obviously left our mark in some way and it’s pretty overwhelming.” |
The movie theater event will encompass two hours of all-star headliner performances recorded in Los Angeles on September 6, including exclusive appearances from several top acts who’ve kick-started their careers on the Vans Warped Tour, as well special behind-the-scenes footage. Tickets for the theater event are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The Vans Warped Tour 15th Anniversary Celebration appears on the big screen in high-definition with Cinema Surround Sound in 464 select movie theaters, through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. |
