IAN GILLAN ENLISTS HIS FRIENDS ON GILLANS INN DUAL DISC
Legendary vocalist Ian Gillan, has decided to re-visit the classic songs made famous by Deep Purple and his own solo career on his new release Gillan’s Inn. Ian invited several of his friends to guest on the album including Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), guitarist Joe Satriani, Janick Gers (Iron Maiden), Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls), Ronnie James Dio (Dio), Steve Morse, Jeff Healey and the rest of Deep Purple. We caught up with Gillan to talk about the recording of Gillan’s Inn and having an amazing list of musicians help out on the project. |
Perhaps one of the most intriguing aspects to the Gillan’s Inn Dualdisc is the “Smoke On The Water” choose your own mix with your choice of lead guitar done by Joe Satriani, Steve Morse or Jeff Healey. Gillan talked about his conscious decision to be more user friendly by allowing his fans to choose which soloist they want to color one of rock and roll’s greatest songs. |
“Regarding this album, it was a work of joy, a labor of love. I had the most amazing response from all of my buddies when I figured out what I was going to do, selected the material, made some phone calls and sent some email. Within twenty minutes I got a call from Joe Elliot ‘Yeah count me in mate, I’m your man.’ And a very positive response from John Lord, Joe Satriani, Tony Iommi, Janick Gers, the guys in Purple, everyone’s been real supportive. It’s just been a joy, the concept was like ‘Let’s have a jam session.’ Everyone got pointed in the direction of one song and they could choose a couple more and off we went.” |
Ian Gillan and Deep Purple have embarked on a two year world tour in support of their latest release ‘Rapture of the Deep.’ The tour starts April 26th in New Zealand, extending until July 24th in Greece. “Everyone in the studio was given three hours to do their contribution to the music and no one was allowed to leave until they had one pass at Smoke on the Water.’ So we ended up with the most incredible number of guitar solos, more than we could handle. So fortunately we have a DVD on the other side of the dual disc, the CD on one side all the visual stuff on the other side. So we were able to use four of them. You can get your option of which one you’d like to click onto which guitar solo you want to hear, or all of them if want Joe Satriani, Jeff Healey, Steve Morse, Michael Lee Jackson. There’s also another one from Steve Morse in there, I haven’t been able to find it, but it’s in there somewhere.” |
