Hugh Grant Song And Dance Man
Hugh Grant had to sing and dance playing an 80s pop star in Music and Lyrics. |
As the lead singer and composer for the fictitious band Pop in Music & Lyrics it was important for Hugh Grant to be musically accomplished and play piano. In fact musical theater composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mother taught a very young Hugh to play. |
He says he only had to brush up on the ivories to play several of the songs for the film as music comes naturally for him. |
“All of those things I’ve always been able to do. I’ve always been a pianist, sing. I love music. I’m obsessed with it really. I get home at night and I sort put music on and I dance.” |
Hugh soon discovered that dancing in film is quite different to dancing in the privacy of your hotel room. |
“Well I was in a panic about the dancing I have to say. There was a lot of practice. The only time I find I can really let myself go is in a hotel room in my underwear completely alone late at night drunk. Drew: Behind the mirror he doesn’t know it yet but they’re coming out soon, the tapes. Hugh: So it is difficult but in the end through perseverance we came up with something I think worked.” |
Watching Duran Duran music videos was great inspiration for Hugh’s eighties dance moves especially the signature step he calls the hip pop. |
