Hugh Dancy stars in Evening playing a drunk who is love sick for Claire Danes.

Hugh Dancy stars in Evening which centers around a weekend in Nantucket where Hugh’s very wealthy society family is celebrating the engagement of their daughter.

Claire Danes, a close school friend plays one of the bridesmaids and has wonderful scenes with Hugh dancing around the house with him.

“He is sort of charming. The role of this guy is the son of the family to whom Claire comes for the weekend. It’s my sister Lila who’s getting married and me, Lila and Ann are old buddies.”

Hugh says his character may appear fun loving but he has many secrets he’s hiding with massive amounts of alcohol.

“You realize over the course of this weekend that underneath what seems to be an incredibly vivacious, charming, much more liberated kind of spirit than actually the rest of the family seems is actually a real welter of complications. He’s dealing with his family by kind of getting drunk and passing everything off as funny and funny starts to veer into tragedy so he’s a complicated character.”

Hugh seems to have a knack for playing drunk. He recently played one to perfection on the New York stage as a World War I officer battling his demons and the German forces in the Tony award winning revival of Journey’s End. Evening opens Friday in theaters.
