HOUSE OF PAYNE EXPLORES REAL PAIN
House of Payne deals with real life issues and pain even though it’s a sitcom. |
Tyler Perry’s House of Payne is a new comedy on TBS with several generations of family living under the same roof. La Van Davis and Cassi Davis play Curtis and Ella Payne the heads of the household whose lives are turned upside down when their troubled nephew and his kids move in. |
Cassi and LaVan say amidst the laughter many hardcore issues that affect real families are explored. |
“I think that when people look at this show they will see themselves. They will hear issues that are going on in their homes. We got a lot of shows where we deal with issues and I think the whole deal about the drugs and using drugs. Why y’all talkin’ about crack, talkin’ about drugs? Come on, come on, let’s talk about it. People need to know and be smacked in the face because it’s here and it happens and we need to deal with it. And if we deal with it with laughter as far as entertainment goes it’s cool but at least just realize that is an issue and it is happening and we need to do something about it.” |
Madea’s Family Reunion creator Tyler Perry wanted to tell the stories about what really goes on between relations. |
“There’s nothing taboo in this show which is really, really great and I think a lot of people in America will be able to relate because we’re not trying to be politically correct. We’re not trying to be watered down. I just want to tell real stories that any family in America who are real people can sit and say, ‘wait a minute that’s us.’ I think that’s what keeps people coming back. That’s what worked for Cosby, that’s what worked for Roseanne. People could understand and recognize it.” |
Allen Payne as CJ actually had a recurring role on The Cosby Show as Lance Rodman. Tyler Perry’s House of Payne debuted June 6 at 9PM on TBS. |
