HOPPUS SAYS DELONGE SHOULD’VE MANNED UP WITH BLINK 182 SPLIT
Blink 182 broke up just when they had reached the height of their success, Mark and Travis share what really happened. |
Plus 44 has done reasonably well with its release, When Your Heart Stops Beating and it follows in the footsteps of Angels And Airwaves latest release We Don’t Need To Whisper. Both groups are comprises of members that made up Blink 182. Plus 44 is comprised of Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker while Angels And Airwaves is led by Tom Delonge. |
Blink 182 was at the top of their game, and one of the biggest bands in the world when Tom Delonge simply didn’t want to do it anymore. |
“I don’t know. Man, at the end, at the end Tom was just a different person. He wouldn’t even speak for himself anymore. He was communicating with me and Travis through our manager, and when he wanted something or needed something changed for whatever reason, we would sit down and it would be me and Travis sitting on one side of the room and Tom and our old manager on the other side of the room. Tom would sit there like this [head down] and our manager would do all the talking for him at that point. Even when he quit the band he didn’t quit the band. He had his manager call and say, ‘Tom’s not in the band anymore. He’s changed his phone number. He doesn’t want to talk to you guys, so…'” |
It was the way he went about communicating it that steamed Hoppus and Barker. |
“I don’t know what led him to get to that point, but after thirteen years of being in a band together you would think somebody would call themselves. I know it’s a difficult call to make, but that’s what men do. You have to do things the right way.” |
While Hoppus and Barker are still hurting, Delonge said on the Angels And Airwaves website that he loves and misses them, and wish them well in Plus 44. Could fences be mended in the future? Tune back next week and we’ll have that answer. Blink 182 sold at least seven million albums, with the last self-titled effort released in 2004. |
