HOLLYWOOD DECLARES SEPTEMBER 10TH OZZY OSBOURNE DAY
The Sunset Strip Music Festival kicked of it’s second year with a ceremony celebrating the legendary career of Ozzy Osbourne. A few of Ozzy’s flose friends like Henry Rollins, Tommy Lee, Slash, Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Morrison, comedian Jim Norton, and, via video, Jimmy Kimmel and Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister all praised Ozzy’s four decades performing live with his band Black Sabbath and solo artist, as well as a friend, husband and father. In fact the city of West Hollywood honored Ozzy as well by declaring September 10th Ozzy Osbourne Day. Ozzy, who was honored at The House of Blues, will be closing the Festival on Saturday September 12th with a performance with his band on Sunset Blvd as the city closes the streets to inact two main stages as bands will also be performing inside historic venues like The Roxy, The Whiskey A-Go-Go, The Key Club (formerly Gazzari’s) and The Cat Club. |
Artisan News caught up with Ozzy to get his thoughts on having the city declare September 10th as Ozzy Day. |
“It’s mind blowing. I never expected this at all. There’s not many more things I can achieve I suppose.” |
Henry Rollins also talked about getting the chance to honor Ozzy. |
“It’s great. Ozzy’s people called me a while ago and said ‘Do you want to help us celebrate Ozzy?’ I said ‘Well yeah!’ I celebrate him all the time on my stereo so I might as well do it in person.”rn |
Seth Binzer of Crazy Town also shared his thoughts of Ozzy being the definition of a ‘Rock God!’ |
“I think Ozzy is like, he’s the definition of what a Rock God is you know. Infamous, crazy, an extremely talented amazing singer, out of his mind. All the good ingredients of a Rock Star. You look up Rock Star in a book and it has Ozzy.” |
Other guests on hand to honor Ozzy included close friend Bill Ward of Black Sabbath, Gabriel Byrne, David Spade, Michael Des Barres, The Donnas, System of a Down’s John Dolmayan, Chelsea Girls (Samantha Maloney, Corey Parks, Allison Robertson) and Vains of Jenna. The Sunset Strip Music Festival wrapped up with a set from Camp Freddy which included Billy Morrison, Donovan Leitch, Chris Chaney, Mark McGrath, Kenny Aronoff, Steve Stevens, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Steve Jones, John5 and Frankie Perez. The Sunset Strip Music Festival will also feature performances from Korn, Pepper, The Kotton Mouth Kings, Onesidezero, Ace Frehly, B Real of Cypress Hill, LMFAO and The Donnas. |
