HIP HOP HONORS EXPANDS TO INCLUDE A WEEK OF ACTIVITIES

VH-1’s 3rd Annual Hip Hop Honors show will tape this Saturday, October 7th, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. This year’s honorees include: Ice Cube, the Wu-Tang Clan, Afrika Bambaataa, MC Lyte, Rakim, the Beastie Boys, Eazy-E, and Russell Simmons. The show will be hosted by Ice T who is currently one of the co-stars of the popular NBC drama, Law & Order SVU. The rapper shared that he’s often been asked how could he play a cop on TV. He said, |
In addition to the show, Hip Hop Honors has been expanded to ‘VH1 Hip Hop Honors Week’ which will include culinary, educational, cultural, fashion and sports activities from October 12th to October 17th. |
“Now people come to me know like, ‘Oh Ice you play the police on television. How the hell can you do that?’ Cause I’m not mad at the police. When I was a criminal, the police were the opponent. You understand? I was trying to break the law. I’m not breaking the law now. I need them to protect my black ass. I have no hatred for the police.” |
The week will kick off with “Education Day” on Thursday (October 12) where artists will work with kids in New York City’s public schools. Friday, October 13th, will be Restaurant Day. Restaurants in all five boroughs will feature special discounts and promotions, with Remy Ma serving food at Junior’s Times Square. Saturday, October 14th, will be “Music and Culture Day”. New Yorkers will be able to enjoy special events and promotions at City’s famed cultural organizations, like Graffiti Basics at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and The Hip Hop Cultural Centre at the Magic Johnson Theatre. The evening will end with a special reunion performance of EPMD at New York City’s B.B. King Blues Club and Grill. |
Sunday, October 15th, will be “Sports and Parks Day.” Hip hop legends will take the field for “Hip Hop Honors Celebrity Hoops”. Chris Brown, Kurtis Blow and Ice T are some of the artists scheduled to participate. “Fashion and Shopping Day” is scheduled for Monday, October 16th. Jimmy Jazz will host “VH1’s Celebrity Make Me Over Shopping Spree” and everyone will get 10%. The week will end on Tuesday, October 17th, with the airing of “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” at 9pm ET on VH1. |
