HELLOGOODBYE TALK NERDS AND TOUR LESSONS
Hellogoodbye has been selling an impressive amount of copies of their album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!, which was released last summer. It debuted at Number 18 and has been consistently just below the upper echelon of artists since then. |
The band recently released the video for “Here (In Your Arms),” and it portays vocalist Forrest Kline and keyboardist Jesse Kurvink and the rest of the crew as nerds. The duo says people definitely have them pegged wrong. |
[Kurvink] “That we’re dorks. Everyone is always like, ‘You guys have the whole nerd thing down,’ and we’re like, ‘What are you talking about, ‘Nerd thing’?” [Kline] “Exactly.” [Kurvink] “We dress nice. We’re respectable. We’re not nerds.” [Kline] “Do I look like a nerd? OK, I guess I do…” [Kuvink] “Well, I mean just because a guy has glasses….” [Kline] “Read? He’s (to Jesse)the one that reads. I don’t read, dude, I hump chicks, dude. [Kurvink] “Like, I have a girlfriend and stuff, and she makes out with me.” [Kline] “Just because I’m into chess and Cardigans and interior design. We watch History Channel, HGTV, and stuff like that. That makes me a nerd all of the sudden? ” [Kurvink] “Oooh. Sorry I like to read books.” |
Hellogoodbye have toured with some of today’s biggest bands like Panic! At The Disco, All-American Rejects, and Motion City Soundtrack among others. The band was asked if they pick up things from the big boys. |
[Kurvink] “I felt… I kind of felt like that you learn, just, from bands that have been doing it for longer, and when you start you really don’t know what you’re doing.” [Kline] “In the beginning with the first tour with Motion City Soundtrack you know, they kind of told us some things. And for a long time we didn’t [understand] things like showing up on time and soundcheck and understanding the schedule of it all and stuff like that we kind of learned. [Kurvink] “Maybe learning the pecking order of how things work on a tour. If you’re the opening band on a tour you have to make concessions to the headline band and stuff like that. I guess that’s pretty… [Kline] “It’s not what we had expected, but we learned the ins and outs of it I guess.” |
Hellogoodbye recently taped an MTV Live concert at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City for air this summer. Hellogoodbye just kicked off a run of headlining dates that run through May 25 in Tallahassee, Florida. |
