Helena Bonham Carter sank her teeth albeit false ones into the role of Bellatrix Lestrange, who escapes from Azkaban after 14 years in Harry Potter And the Order of The Phoenix. |
Carter felt that wearing the dentures gave her the look and sound she needed to pull off her dementia. |
“I just always wear teeth when in doubt. I just thought it’d be fun to have fake teeth. Also I thought she’s been in prison, she’s not gonna have good teeth. I’m sure there was another reason I sold to the producers but she had to be slightly odd and off, and also it produces a different kind of speech. The unfortunate thing is when you’re wearing teeth your upper lip often sticks to it because it dries out your mouth. And then all of the takes are redundant because you look like a beaver by the end of the take. So it maybe wasn’t one of the wisest choice but it was fun to play with.” |
Helena also made the unwise choice of using her wand to clean out Matthew Lewis’s ears who stars as Neville Longbottom. |
“That was bad. I was mortified actually With Neville Longbottom I was just torturing him and I thought it would be a fun idea to use my wand as a Q tip and just give his ear a cleaning but then it went too far in. As I put it in he went that way and I think it actually did draw blood inside his ear. That was terrible. I felt really mortified but luckily I didn’t cause any permanent damage making him deaf but then I kept going ‘Neville,’ I had to shout at him all the time so he could hear me.” |
We’ll be hearing plenty from Helena Bonham Carter as she’s singing the lead of Mrs. Lovett in her boyfriend Tim Burton’s musical Sweeney Todd. |
