HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY BRITISH CHRISTMAS
British stars like to celebrate their home traditions for Christmas as evidenced by Rufus Sewell, Bill Nighy, and Cate Blanchett Keywords:The Holiday, Notes … |
Many of Hollywood’s British imports get nostalgic over the holidays yearning for hearth and home. The Holiday star Rufus Sewell was born in Twickenham, Middlesex in the heart of England’s countryside. |
He says he longs for a country Christmas in Britain. |
“Christmas in the countryside is beautiful. That’s where I tend to go, where my family live is in Wales which is not England but Britain. My mom is in a very old house. There’s a 10th century castle. It doesn’t snow as much as it should. Only in films it snows but in reality you dream of it to snow actually at Christmas. For me it’s all about fireplaces and overeating and pubs and wood smoke and a long walk.” |
Notes on A Scandal stars Cate Blanchett and Bill Nighy have a unique British Christmas tradition which could become very popular in the states for children who are sometimes naughty. |
“Oh I love Christmas. I love sitting around the piano with everyone singing out of tune and drinking eggnog. Bill: I discovered they don’t have Christmas crackers in America. I figure I could make a million bucks. Cate: You break the cracker open. You get a terrible joke, a bad toy and a terrible Christmas hat which you have to wear. Bill: Before you can eat your dinner. You don’t have this. Two people pull it and it makes a big pop and whoever gets most of the cracker wins the prize that’s inside. And they don’t have to be a terrible person because if you spend some money you can get some good presents. Cate: Yeah but they have very expensive crackers. The trinkets are still bad, they’re just made out of silver. Bill: Ok, Ok,Ok, Ok.” |
