HARLAND WILLIAMS SEES MEET THE ROBINSONS
Harland Williams stars in the number two movie at the box office Meet The Robinsons as Carl, the Robinson family’s frenetic robot. Harland is no stranger to voicing robots, having had the role of Lug in the 2005 animated film Robots. |
It took three years to complete the film because of all the different elements coming together in animation but Harland says it’s all worth while when he sees the faces of the children watching the film. |
“It’s a lot of fun to make the movie but the real pay-off is when you’re sitting there and people are seeing it for the first time. They don’t know what anything is gonna look like or sound like and you see them get sad or you see them laugh or you see them get scared. It’s just exhilarating. It’s like going down a ski hill at 100 miles an hour, it really is because you know that you’re part of that reaction they’re having and it’s really fulfilling.” |
When voicing an animated film, the actor is all alone in a sound proof booth. Harland says he experienced a surreal moment when he saw his character on screen interacting with Uncle Art. |
“I was watching the movie and there was my character in a scene with Adam West, you know the guy who played Batman and I’m like, ‘how bizarre.’ Technically I’m doing a scene with Batman and for just a little moment I felt like Robin.” |
Williams is currently working with DreamWorks Animation to write, direct and star in his own feature Route 66. Williams is also an accomplished author and illustrator of his own series of children’s books, involving a little brontosaurus named Lickety Split. |
