GZA AND DJ MUGGS RELEASE JOINT ALBUM

The Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA and Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs released their joint album, DJ Muggs VS GZA The Genius: Grandmasters, on Tuesday, October 25th. The album was released on Muggs’ new label Angeles Record. The GZA first hooked up with DJ Muggs when he appeared on Muggs’ 1997 Soul Assassins compilation.

GZA has enjoyed a long and fruitful career in rap music. He released his debut album, Words From The Genius, in 1990 on the Cold Chillin label whose roster included MC Shan, marley Marl, Biz Markie, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane. The rapper explained what it was like in the early days. He said,

“Rap is totally different now. I mean it’s going through many different stages. Like I said back then, you know, I was very hungry to get on. You know like I said I was glad to be on a label with a couple of heavyweights but unfortunately things didn’t work out but it was a learning experience for me. You know being out on the road, traveling, working with some of the artists and also growing into the business.”
