GWEN STEFANI TO START SINGING IN THE STUDIO WITH NO DOUBT THIS MONTH
Drummer Adrian Young confirms Gwen Stefani is set to start singing in the studio with No Doubt on the band’s rough tracks for their upcoming album. |
It’s no secret Adrian Young, Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont of No Doubt have been patiently waiting for Gwen Stefani’s solo career to take a hiatus so they can begin recording their highly anticipated follow up to 2001’s ‘Rock Steady,’ which peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard Chart. Lead singer Gwen Stefani released her first solo album in 2004, ‘Love. Angel. Music. Baby’, which captured worldwide critical acclaim and reached multi-platinum status in several countries, including a quintuple platinum certification in Canada and triple platinum in the U.S. In 2006, Gwen Stefani released her second solo album, ‘The Sweet Escape’ and a national tour in 2007 followed and No Doubt, once again was put aside. But that didn’t stop the remaining three guys from beginning preproduction in the studio on what will be No Doubt’s next album. |
We caught up with drummer Adrian Young to find out if the band is taking a new direction in songwriting on the upcoming album. |
“No. No. In fact we’ve gone back to the old a little bit. We’ve got some Ska songs and some Reggae songs. We’ll see how it turns out but this record has actually so far been done more organically than the last record. So far it’s been the three of us boys jamming and coming up with sections in a jamming situation. Where we haven’t done that in years.” |
So has Gwen started singing rough vocal tracks yet? |
“Gwen’s been on tour all this past year so she hasn’t started singing yet on the stuff we recorded but she’s going to start singing this month.” |
Although there is no definitive release date the band plans to hopefully have the album ready by the end of 2008, followed by the inevitable No Doubt World Tour in support of the release. |
