GREEN DAY TAKES ASCAP POP AWARD SONG OF THE YEAR
(VIDEO) Last week the ASCAP Pop Awards were given out, and Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” shared Song Of The Year honors. |
Green Day was on hand at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California last week to accept their ASCAP Award for Song Of The Year. “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” actually shares thw award with “We Belong Together,” written by Jermaine Dupri, Johnta Austin and Manuel Seal. |
Green Day and Eurythmics star Annie Lennox were both honored for their oustanding contributions to music. In an interview backstage, Green Day’s Billie Joe talked about what they wanted out of the business as songwriters. |
“When we first started playing we always wanted to have the ability to just play music for the rest of our lives and write songs for the rest of our lives, so… I don’t know. We’ve kind of gone beyond our expectations.” |
Green Day also came up to the podium at the ceremony to accept their award. |
“Well, you know, we’re really grateful. Thank you very much. Thanks a lot to ASCAP and to Reprise records. Tom Whalley gave us really great advice. He said to — about making a record — [the most important thing] is enjoying the process.” |
Green Day’s ASCAP recognition comes at the end of a long string of Awards, with the San Francisco punksters taking home every conceivable award for their work on their smash album, American Idiot. |
