GREEN DAY, 50 CENT AND MARIAH CAREY SPEARHEAD THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
Mariah Carey scored four nominations and Green Day notched three to be the leading nominees for the 33rd Annual Music Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles’s Shrine Auditorium and aired on ABC-TV on November 22. Carey was nominated for Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock category, Favorite Album in the pop/rock category for Emancipation of Mimi, Favorite Female Artist in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category and favorite album in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category for Emancipation of Mimi. Green Day was nominated for Favorite Band Duo or Group in the pop/rock category, Favorite Album in the pop/rock category for American Idiot, and Favorite Artist in the Alternative Music category. |
John Mayer was nominated for Adult Contemporary music, but his music has changed this time around with his new outfit, John Mayer Trio, which made its debut earlier this year. Some are saying that last year’s AMA performance may be Mayer’s last as a solo artist. He said that there’s two sides of his musical expression. |
“You know there are like two me’s. There’s the compositional side of me and there’s the performance side of me and you hope that when you’re composing that you’re composing something that’s going to be really fun to perform. But you don’t always know until you’re on the road for a year behind that stuff. and so there’s just some songs that for whatever reason become very fun night after night to play no matter how old they are and some that don’t. So I’m just trying to get as focused as possible on creating music, to really make things that are fun to feel yourself playing.” |
The performers for the show haven’t been announced but a good bet is that Mayer, who has become an American Music Awards favorite will be able to get his rock trio some primetime exposure. |
Other multiple award nominees include Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Destiny’s Child and Fantasia, among others. |
