GRAMMY AWARD WINNER ZIGGY MARLEY SHINES LIKE THE SUN
Ziggy Marley won his first Grammy Award as a solo artist for Best Reggae album for his ‘Love is My Religon.’ So how does Ziggy feel about his Grammy? |
Ziggy Marley won his first ever Grammy Award as a solo artist garnering the Grammy for Best Reggae album for his latest release ‘Love is My Religon.’ The album, which is Ziggy’s second as a solo artist, is the follow up to Ziggy’s first solo effort ‘Dragonfly.’ The win is Marley’s 4th total Grammy in the Best Reggae category with three previous wins with Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers. |
We caught up with Ziggy to discuss his thoughts on winning The Grammy for Best Reggae Album, which he appreciates but what means more to him is having his music touch people. |
“It’s not to say I don’t care, well I really don’t care. It’s true I really don’t care. No disrespect you know what I’m saying we just don’t care about that stuff. If we get it they fine, but we don’t work for that. I think our music and our goal is to touch people. We gotta realize, the pop charts or the Billboard charts realize that we’re touching people it don’t matter because the music is forever. Our music is not the music that is going to come in bum rush nothing. We are for the long run. We are here forever.” |
Marley also talked about shining forever like the sun compared to a shooting star that shines brightly for a short period of time then fades out fast. |
“Some other things are like shooting stars, they shoot bright for a second and then pfft. We are like the sun shining, we shine forever. We’d rather be like the sun, then a shooting star that gets bright and then after a while it disappears you know. We want to be around forever and that’s what our music is all about. But we appreciate any kind of acknowledgement out of music. Sometimes it helps our message reach further, so that’s one good thing about awards and stuff like that. It kind of promotes the music more, but that’s never been in my heart that I want to get an award for doing this record.” |
Ziggy Marley recently shot a Live DVD which was filmed at The Avalon Ballroom in Hollywood, Ca. Ziggy and his band tore through hits from his Melody Makers career, tracks from ‘Dragonfly’ and many songs off ‘Love is My Religon.’ Look for the album to be released by the end of the year. It was also recently announced Ziggy will be performing for his first time at Bonnaroo, joining Tool, The Police, Widespread Panic, Ben Harper and many more incredible acts in Tennessee from June 14th through the 17th. |
