GOLDEN GLOBES A SLUMDOG EVENT, WINSLET AND WRESTLER WIN
Bruce Springsteen took home a Golden Globe for his theme song from the Mickey Rourke movie, The Wrestler, and he took a shot at Clint Eastwood. |
Bruce Springsteen was the big music winner at the Golden Globes last night, January 11, which were aired live from Los Angeles on NBC-TV. The Boss was nominated for the title track to the movie “The Wrestler.” The movie received two Golden Globes, with Springsteen’s friend, Mickey Rourke, getting the “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama” award. |
At the podium he accepted his award from a bearded Sting, bassist for the police. Springsteen said it was Rourke who got him involved in the project. |
“This is the only time I’m going to be in competition with Clint Eastwood. I knkow that for sure. It felt pretty good, too. Anyway, Mickey called me in Ireland and he asked me for some music. He told me a little bit about the character. He said, ‘Some people invest themselves in their pain and they turn away from love and the things that strengthen and nurture their lives. He said this is a guy that hadn’t figured that out.’ So, I said, well, I know a couple of those guys.” |
Late in the night Rourke thanked Springsteen and Axl Rose, who he convinced to let “Sweet Child O’ Mine” in the film. The night was also full of other music stars including Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, Mark Anthony, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, who was nominated for her role in Bolt, and Ben Harper who was there with his Golden Globe winning wife, Laura Dern. |
