GODSMACK WRITING FOR NFL PATRIOTS
Magic! played DirecTV’s Fanfest earlier this week, and they found the whole pre Super Bowl experience not so “Rude” as they marveled at being in Arizona. |
The National Football League season might be over, but for Godsmack and the New England Patriots, work has just begun. Fresh after the Patriots exited the playoffs early this year, the football team’s ownership has tapped frontman Sully Erna to lend a hand with an official song for the Patriots for next season. |
Erna, who grew up in Boston, is a Pats fan, and the ownership wanted him to rework “I Stand Alone.” While Erna didn’t exactly take to that idea, he said he’s writing a brand new song for the team. |
“We’re talking about it. I became friends with Jonathan Kraft who is one of the owners of the New England Patriots and he really loves the band. He wanted to use “I Stand Alone” as their, what they come out to on the field. As you know, there’s no ‘I’ in team so he wanted me to change it from “I Stand Alone” to “We Stand Alone,” and I just didn’t even try it. It just sounded stupid, I can’t make this happen. Because he’s a fan he actually invited me to one of the games against the Miami Dolphins, and I got to sing the National Anthem, and that was really cool. We talked that day. I got to take some pictures with the trophies. I told him I’ve got this really cool piece of music that I’ve been holding off writing any lyrics to or samples or soundbites because I feel like it’s the perfect stadium song for the NFL and that kind of thing.” |
Erna talked about ideas he has for the song. |
“It’s an instrumental right now, and I’m saving it because I don’t know if I’m going to put actual lyrics to it, or if I’m going to work with football players and soundbites and big hits and crowd cheers. Who knows what it’s going to be.” |
Godsmack’s new single “Speak,” has just arrived at radio, and the new album, titled Four, will be hitting stores in the spring. |
