GODSMACK REVEALS NEW SIDE ON FOUR
Godsmack frontman/mastermind Sully Erna recently revealed the band is finished with their new album, but what’s even more shocking is that the foursome has going in a new direction. |
Erna said the band’s new album is called Four, and one of the reasons is that he’s got a track on the collection that is remniniscent of when Led Zeppelin got creative with the song, “The Battle Of Evermore.” |
“So it was as if I was writing for a new band, and it was very cool. And I think thats why some of the stuff feels a little more special to us because there’s stuff on there that’s very epic sounding that I would have probably never thought of, but I brought them some more bluesy stuff like “Shine Down,” and that kind of thing. ‘Hollow’ I kind of created one day sitting on the couch playing this acoustic part, and [guitarist] Tony [Rombola] grabbed a mandolin and started doodling with that. And it became really cool. It ended up growing into this amazing composition kind of thing where I actually ended up using this girl that I had been friends with named Lisa Guyer on it. And it’s almost like it’s become the 2006 version of ‘The Battle Of Evermore.’ That’s what I relate it to.” |
Erna told us that the other members of Godsmack had a lot to do with the shape of the album. |
“Well, I think there’s a distinct sound on this record that’s like something we’ve never done before because the writing process in general was very different from how we wrote in the past. On this record me and the band detached and they went and they wrote their own music and I wrote my own music and we met up months and months later and showed each other what we had. And it was really cool because they introduced me to a whole different kind of music that I would have never wrote. There was just a whole different sound for me to hear, that they were playing, which led me to go in a different direction lyrically and melodically.” |
Godsmack 4, tinted with an infusion of the blues, is slated for release in the spring, but single should be on rock radio by next month. |
