GODSMACK MEMBERS FORM ANOTHER ANIMAL
Godsmack members guitarist Tony Romobola, drummer Shannon Larkin and bassist Robbie Merrill have formed a side-project Another Animal. The band came out of writing sessions with Godsmack vocalist Sully Erna with close to 40 songs, but a majority of them were not used for the band’s forthcoming record, Four. Larkin said that the fact that they were so prolific presented a unique opportunity. |
Larkin said that with the band jamming together and writing, they never hit a wall, but he admitted that it was a while before Sully busted through his writing block. Larkin added they made the most of the time and music that could have gone to waste. |
The band said that all that was left was to find a singer, and they were originally going to go with Dropbox’s John Kosco, but he was tied up with his band Saint Caine. |
“It wasn’t really productive for Godsmack, but for Tony, Robby and me it was productive for us — we found each others niche in songwriting. In fact, so much so that even after Sully had… We had like thirty something songs including Sully songs and the songs that the band wrote together. There was 38 songs or something ridiculous like that — a bunch of music, a bunch of really good music. And you know you can only have so many songs on the record. So we had all this left-over music that we thought was kick-ass. So we started another band — me, Robby And Tony. It’s called Another Animal.” |
Godsmack is set to get the machine working in support of their forthcoming record, Four, which includes both promtion and touring. Meanwhile, there was no word on dates for the release of Another Animal’s CD or a tour by the band. |
“So, anyway, we called the band Another Animal and got Whit Crane, who’s my buddy from Ugly Kid Joe, to sing, and he’s awesome. The music is definitely some Sabbath but with Angel Dust Faith No More era.” |
