GLENN CLOSE, CLOSE TO HIGH SOCIETY
Connecticut born Glenn Close related to her high society character in Evening. |
Glenn Close stars in Evening playing the matriarch of an upper class family who hosts an exclusive weekend engagement party for her daughter in their summer cottage. |
Growing up in the tony town of Greenwich Connecticut, whose grandfather was once married to the heiress of the Post cereal fortune, Close can relate to her high society character’s airs. |
“I really liked Mrs. Wintenborn. She’s so much like a lot of the women I remember when I was growing up. I grew up in Connecticut so there’s a certain kind of air about them that is really wonderfully written. She’s a little unsure about Claire, Claire’s character Ann. She is not sure if she’s a good influence on her daughter because she’s considered kind of risqué because she lives in the Village and she wears kind of strange clothes and she’s more of a bohemian type which is not something you would ever want your daughter to be.” |
Claire Danes plays a young Vanessa Redgrave looking back on her youth as she’s dying and wondering if she made the right choices in her life. |
“It’s about family. It’s about family through the generations and how the choices of one generation affect the other generations. You know how everyone is connected and how hard it is sometimes to forget or to kind of move on from an event that might have been deeply emotional or guilt-ridden or whatever it is. What do you do with your life after that? It makes you kind of reassess some of the choices that you’ve made. It’s really a very powerful movie that way. And I was thrilled by the performances. I was inspired. It made me proud that I was an actor.” |
An interesting choice was to have award winning actress Meryl Streep playing her real life daughter Mamie Gummer in the film as an older woman. |
