Geoffrey Rush returns from the dead as Captain Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End teaming up with Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann to save Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack from his mind-bending purgatory in Davy Jones’ locker. |
Geoffrey says his favorite location was in The Bahamas which featured untainted white sandy beaches. |
“When we were shooting down at the Grand Exumas we had one big scene which takes place on a sand bar which I don’t know how the locations people discover this stuff but it is a powder white. The sand is like sugar frosting, you know icing sugar. It’s in the middle of nowhere surrounded by perfect aquamarine seas.” |
Most of the action in Pirates 3 takes place out in the middle of the high seas aboard The Flying Dutchman which Geoffrey says was a daunting challenge for the cast and crew. |
“Now for us to film wherever we were 40 miles out at sea on that location which is only above water for seven hours a day. We went out at four in the morning in the pitch black in all the little rubber dingys which at that stage had maybe four or five hundred people out to unit base which was four massive oil tankers all chained together which was our home base. It had all the trailers. It had all the production departments, the make-up vans etc. etc. Then we’d get in and out of boats. We’ve all developed the most fabulous sea legs.” |
Geoffrey stays pretty much on land in his next film as Sir Francis Walsinghamrnin The Golden Age which explores the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I played by Cate Blanchett and Sir Walter Raleigh played by Clive Owen. |
