GELLAR AND TAMBLYN TACKLE TOKYO GHOSTS FOR GRUDGE 2

(VIDEO) Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to The Grudge 2 to once again tackle the scary Tokyo ghost, this time with Amber Tamblyn.

Its two years later and the grudge can’t seem to leave Sarah Michelle Gellar at peace. In The Grudge we saw her get accosted in the shower and in The Grudge 2 she is in a Tokyo hospital recovering from an accident with the Grudge house when the creepy entity shows up again. Sarah talks about what is behind the Japanese folklore in the film.

Amber Tamblyn stars as Gellar’s younger sister who is exposed to the same mysterious curse that afflicted her sister when she arrives in Tokyo and comes to a traumatic and dramatic fate. Amber talks about the power these spirits have in Japan.

“It works best when you have an emotional attachment, when you feel something for the person. A ghost isn’t just a guy in a leather mask with a chainsaw. You want to understand the anger and the emotion and in Japanese folklore that’s where ghosts per se come from. They are unsettled emotion.”

Director Takashi Shimizu returns for The Grudge 2. Rumor has it that he would perform karaoke to lighten the mood on the scary film which opens tomorrow in theaters nationwide. rn

“It’s really interesting to feel the weight of what ghosts represent in human mythology. And so it’s really interesting to be a part of something that seems to have a much longer longevity than just film. And to put that into a film and to bring out people’s basic instinctual fear, what scares them, what the element of fear is to them. I think that that’s a pretty powerful thing.”
