FRAY SUCCESS IS NO GREY AREA
The Fray have steadily built a solid fan base on the strength of two hit singles ‘Over My Head (Cable Car)’ and ‘How to Save a Life’ but what really catapulted the band to worldwide attention and mainstream success was licensing their songs to the TV Show ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ While the band was enjoying radio success with their first single ‘Over My Head’ it was during a second season episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ that featured ‘How to Save a Life’ and helped the band’s second single soar up the charts. |
We caught up with lead vocalist and keyboardist Isaac Slade to discuss his thoughts on what kind of effect lending music to a TV show, a movie or video game can have. |
“Grey’s Anatomy was a huge help for us. We’ve done a lot of different licensing situations and they’ve all helped a lot, but ‘Grey’s’ was one of the big ones. I think it helped that we had a lot of fans going before that and we had a good base that stuck with us the times before we had TV’s and movies and stuff so we know that they were for us and for the record. It sort of just expanded what was going on already.” |
Slade even admitted the bands success has come a lot faster than anyone could’ve imagined and at times the band is still trying to make sense of it all. |
“It’s been really fast for us and we’ve kind of holding on for dear life trying to figure it out and just make sense of it all. I think it has happened a lot faster than any of our families thought it would and we’re just trying to adjust on the fly and figure out how it goes.” |
After a pair of dates opening up for The Dave Matthews Band in Las Vegas on March 23rd and 24th, The Fray will head back to Europe for one show in London before starting another run of North American tour dates in support of their debut release on Epic Records, ‘How to Save a Life.’ |
It was also recently announced that The Fray are teaming up with Reverb to keep their upcoming tour ‘Green’ and Eco Friendly. Some of Reverbs efforts will include providing biodiesel fuel to some of The Fray’s tour buses, setting up recycling bins at the shows, educating fans about the need to be green and providing renewable energy sources to offset the dirty energy used at venues. |
