FOO FIGHTERS MASH IT UP WITH PETTY AT AMSTERJAM 2006
A Grammy nominations for Best Album is very meaningful to Taylor Hawkins of The Foo Fighters and he feels anyone who says different is full of crap. |
AmsterJam 2006 took place at Randalls Island in New York City this past Saturday (August 19), and the night was capped off by the Foo Fighters and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers jamming together. Actually it was solely Dave Grohl that joined Petty for versions of “Runnin’ Down A Dream” and “You Wreck Me” to close the show. |
Just hours before hitting the stage with Petty, Grohl was asked if he got a chance to work out material with the classic rocker. |
“Nuthin’ I just talked to him this morning, and we’ve been trading phone calls for a couple of days and I said, ‘Hey how are you doing? What’s been happening?’ He says, ‘just on the road.’ And I said, ‘So I guess we’re going to jam together today, what do you want to do?’ He goes, ‘I don’t know, what do you want to do?’ I said, ‘Let’s do anything you want.’ He said, ‘Well what do you know?,’ and I said, ‘I know it all.’ I think we’re going to do ‘You Wreck Me’ and ‘Running Down A Dream,’ I think.” |
Grohl added that he’s always been a fan of Mr. Petty. |
“We all grew up listening to Tom Petty, and I always loved him. I thought he was just an American kid who played rock and roll music and he’s always made classic quality ablums, a great songwriter, a great lyricist and a good example for people that do what we do. He’s someone to look up to. He’s the right kind of guy. If you want to follow anyone’s example, you want to look at Petty. He’s always had integrity and doesn’t take anybody’s s–t. He’s great.” |
Foo Fighters were also in New York City to play an acoustic show at the Beacon Theater. The band has sold out venues across the United States and Canada playing intimate style shows. Tom Petty is also touring with his band, The Heartbreakers, and they’ll be starting another leg of tour dates September 8 in Toronto, Canada. Petty’s latest album, Highway Companion, is Number 17 on the Billboard chart, holding in the Top 20 ten weeks after its debut. |
