FLYLEAF CURRENTLY IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON NEW ALBUM
Flyleaf are writing new material for their next album and they talk about how much their songwriting and unique sound have grown in the past few years |
Flyleaf are currently writing material for the bands follow up to 2005’s self titled album, which debuted at #88 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of their unique sound and the singles “All Around Me” and “I’m So Sick.” The band will look to get into the studio to begin recording the newly written material at the end of October or November and they will once again be bringing in the producing skills of Howard Benson. |
We caught up guitarist Sameer Bhattacharya to get an update on the new material and his thoughts on the bands songwriting growing a lot the past few years. |
“We’ve been working on a new record. We haven’t actually started recording yet but we’ve been recording for it. We spent the month of August writing and recording demos for this new record. As far as musical direction goes, it’s going everywhere. We’ve had so many influences. We’ve had so many…I don’t know, we’ve lived a lot since this last record. The first record, we got to tour the world and share the stage with a lot of amazing bands. I think all that you can hear in our music. It’s really grown.” |
Sameer also talked about the mutual collaboration in Flyleaf contributing to their unique sound. |
“I mean when we write there’s a collabortion but at the same time we’ll come in with individual songs and there’s no particular way that we write. There’s no formula. There’s no set way. Anyway you can write we’ve done it and we will do it. I’ll come to the band with a full song and they’ll keep it just like that. Or I’ll come to the band with a full song and they’ll completely rip it apart and turn it into something else. That’s what being in a band is about. It’s compromise and getting everyone’s input and that’s what makes our unique sound.” |
Flyleaf recently reworked a song from the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s 1993 movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas” for the upcoming CD collection “Nightmare Revisited.” The disc also includes cuts by Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco. Flyleaf currently have one last scheduled show for 2008, which will be November 7th in Springfield, IL. Look for the band to take some time away from the road to finish the recording before announcing another run of shows next year. |
