FLOYD FOUNDER BARRETT PASSES, GILMOUR TREKS ON
While the world of Pink Floyd is mourning the death of founder Syd Barrett due to complications with diabetes, the other members are still trucking on. David Gilmour is taking the show on the road for his new album, On An Island. The famed Pink Floyd singer and guitarist took his show to wildly enthusiastic audiences in the United States a few months back, and now he’s booked Europe. |
As Gilmour explained before the album’s release, his hope was to just play a few small, intimate shows and a few “nice” venues. |
“I want to do, like, half a dozen cities in very, very nice venues for a night, two or three nights, and I’d like to do a very few very select, very nice venues.” |
Gilmour also shared that making On An Island was a different animal than making a Pink Floyd record. |
“I know I would be doing things very, very differently if I were making a Pink Floyd record, but that’s not to say that it’s not recognizably in same sort of ballpark than what we’re doing now. It feels very different.” |
Rumors still persist that Gilmour will end his feud with Roger Waters and bring the original line-up that played Live 8 back together. In the meantime, Pink Floyd fans can buy the DVD for Pink Floyd’s Pulse concert taped at London’s Earl’s Court back in 1994. |
