FLOETRY WANTS TO JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST FEMALE CIRCUMCISION
British R&B duo Floetry is currently in the middle of a U.S. club tour which the group will follow with a full fledged European tour. In between tour dates, group member Marsha Ambrosius will continue working on her solo debut for Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label while Natalie Stewart is slated to appear in an upcoming urban production of the Vagina Monologues. |
Although the ladies still have to continue to promote their latest project, Flo’Ology, they’re hoping to find the time to get involved in the fight against female circumcision. The group explained, |
“(Natalie)We haven’t yet started our own. We’re in the midst of starting our own but there are many things that we’re very passionate about right now, absolutely. Female circumcision is one. No I’m serious, everyone is laughing, but you asked. I’m serious for real. (Marsha) It’s a terrible situation that’s going on over there. (Natalie) It’s going on with little girls right now. So that’s one that we’re extremely focused on.” |
Several female athletes from Sierra Leone recently defected while attending the Commonwealth Games in Sydney, Australia. The group of teenage women cited the fear of circumcision as a reason for not wanting to return home. Sierra Leone is one of 28 African countries which still perform female genital mutilation. |
