FLOBOTS OBAMA REPRESENT SOCIO-POLITICAL CHANGE
Flobots have stood up to their beliefs in opposition to the Iraq war, and they say that their popularity and that of Barack Obama’s is by the people |
Flobots are backers of progressive ideas and progressive reforms when it comes to the socio-political arena. Known as a band against conflict, they performed an Anti-War show adjacent to the Democratic National Convention in a show with Rage Against The Machine in their hometown of Denver, Colorado. Though firmly in the corner of Barack Obama on the eve of the election, the band said that his rise started with the people. |
The band says that Obama’s rise reflects an undercurrent of dissatisfaction circulating among the American people. |
“We are [aware]. We know we are stepping into the spotlight as symbols of this larger shift in consciousness that’s happening in this country. Similar to the way someone like Obama is a symbol, and he was able to do a lot of mobilizing and inspire a lot of hope, but ultimately there’s something happening that’s larger than Obama and than our band is a shift in how we see ourselves as a country and how we want to be seen, and it’s a recognition of the limited resources on this planet. Absolutely, we’re going to rely on people around us to help inform us and help us to live out the message as best we can.” |
The band’s latest single “Rise” did not live up to its name on the charts as a follow-up to the popular “Handlebars.” Flobots play New York on Monday, November 3, right before the election. They’ll cap the year with three shows at home in Denver at the Gothic Theater, December 29-31. |
