FLAMING LIPS PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS ON MARS
The Flaming Lips, best known for the unsurpassed stage performance, energy and creative wardrobe to say the least, are in the final stages of finishing their long awaited full length feature film, ‘Christmas on Mars.’ The band, Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins and Steve Drozd, all appear in the film which was written and directed by Coyne and also stars some guest appearances as well. |
The film, which is in the final stages of post production tells the story of the first Christmas on the newly colonised Mars. We caught up with multi instrumentalist, Michael Ivins, of The Flaming Lips to get a full update on when fans can expect to see the movie. |
“We built all the sets for it and Steven and Wayne and I are all in it and various other and various other people who happen to be hanging around and it’s a weird narrative, pyschological exploration set on Mars and all the principle filming is done so we just need to edit it and get a sound track together. So hopefully we’re going to spend January and Febuary putting it all together and be able to debut it in March hopefully.” |
‘Christmas on Mars’ features Major Syrtis, played by Drozd, who is trying to organize a Christmas pagenat to celebrate the birst of the first colonist baby on Mars. The Flaming Lips are currently on a short tour of the UK and Ireland for November in support of their latest album ‘At War with the Mystics’ which will extend until November 19th in Dublin, Ireland. Look for the band to hopefully have the final finished version of ‘Christmas on Mars’ done and ready for a planned premiere in March at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. |
