FIVESPEED ALBUM WORTH FIGHTING FOR
Fivespeed released their Virgin Records debut Morning Over Midnight in January, but as the year has gotten off to a busy start, the band has been playing the tortoise rahter than the hare. The band’s single “The Mess” is getting some Active Rock radio airplay, and they just came back from a run of dates with 10 Years. |
The band is not affraid to express opinions, especially in the studio, and vocalist Jared Woolsey and Jesse Lacross said that the group came to blows over which songs made the cut for Morning Over Midnight and which didn’t. |
[Woolsey] “Every one of us has to love it. Every one of us. If the four of us love one song and one of us kind of doesn’t like it, it’s a no go. It has to be a unanimous decision and a love for each one of those tunes.” [Lacross] “There’s a lot of kicking and screaming involved in that too.” [Woolsey] “Some fistfights, some fights have been stirred up over that.” |
The band said that while studio fisticuffs remain low, it’s other things about being a band and in close quarters that actually lead to more fights. |
“Well, we didn’t really, you know, and fortunately we were all in agreement on the songs that made the record. We were all stoked with what made the record, I think. We battle over other stuff, stupid things and personal issues, like borthers, more than we battle on the music. You know what I mean? So…” |
Fivespeed are planning their next run of dates in support of Morning Over Midnight, and the band is deliberating with fists in pockets what song will be the next single from the record. |
