FILTER RECALLS MEETING TROOPS AS USA CELEBRATES MEMORIAL DAY
While thoughts turned to the USA’s armed forces on Memorial Day, Filter showed support earlier this year and Richard Patrick shared troop stories. |
With this year’s Memorial Day being closer to the hearts of Americans in a long time and people wanting their boys and girls in the armed forces home, Filter did its part to entertain our troops. The band’s former bass player Frank Cavnagh is a sergeant in the Army and he joined Filter for “Hey Man Nice Shot” for the Operation Myspace show in Kuwait. |
Filter’s lead singer Richard Patrick talked about the experience overseas. |
“It was amazing to meet these incredible people. The people that I met in the United States military were incredible. They were amazing, wonderful people. That’s what makes it even harder, because I put a face (to them). When they say the word troop? What is that? Troops. That means people. Young people in harm’s way. Why? Why are they in harm’s way?” |
Patrick who has made his political viewpoint clear on his new album Anthems For The Damned, was a little uncomfortable singing their new single “Soldiers of Misfortune” in front of the troops. |
“It was a little scary singing, ‘Why can’t we learn from history, why is it such a mystery, I’d like to break free in the land of the lonely where the reasons are phony.’ It’s kind of hard to sing those lyrics, but at the same time it was amazing… It was hard because it was truthful, and sometimes the truth hurts.” |
Filter will hit the road with 10 years starting June 12 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.rn |
