FANS AND FRIENDS SAY GOODBYE TO PIMP C
Several hundred fans turned out to bid Pimp C farewell. |
Bun B, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, the Boss Hog Outlawz, Three 6 Mafia, Mike Jones, David Banner, Rap-A-Lot Records CEO J. Prince, LeToya Luckett, 8Ball & MJG, Willie D from the Geto Boys, Big Gipp and Khujo from the Goodie Mob, NBA guard Steve Francis, and Webbie all attended Pimp C’s funeral on Thursday (December 13th), at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center in Port Arthur, Texas. People began to line up at 7:30 a.m. to ensure that they would make it in to the rap legend’s funeral. The 33-year-old rapper was found dead in his Los Angeles hotel room last week. |
The rapper’s mother, Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe, who wore a black, short-sleeve shirt with UGK’s logo emblazoned on the back like many in the rapper’s inner circle, addressed the audience as well. She said, “I’m all right, you’re all right, ’cause he’s all right. My C is celebrating. He’s happy to see you. ‘Cause Jesus is all right.” |

Monroe added, “He’s all right. He got there (to heaven) and told them, ‘The Souuuth is here!’……You say he was your friend — he got three children, holla at ’em. Take them under your wing.” |
Monroe saw the creation of UGK firsthand as Bun B and Pimp C would meet in the late rapper’s bedroom in high school. Bun B explained how the duo landed a recording contract in the early ’90s. He said, |
