FALL OUT BOY READY OR NOT FOR LIVE EARTH
Fall Out Boy are joining Taking Back Sunday, AFI, John Mayer, and KT Tunstall in trying to get their generation involved in Live Earth’s Green Campaign. |
Fall Out Boy is set for the Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey this Saturday, July 7, and a pared down version of the show featuring highlights will run from 8:00 to 11:00 on NBC-TV. The concert for the environment, organized by Al Gore, seeks to entertain, inform, and provide ways in which people can help change the world we live in with their own actions. Shows are planned in the U.K., Germany, and Brazil, and span across the globe to Australia, China and Japan. Information on global Warming, deforestation and other issues will be presented at the event. |
Fall Out Boy doesn’t expect that their performance or sets by their fellow musicians to galvanize everyone to change the world, but they do expect to reach a few people who could be instrumental in saving our world. |
[Bassist Pete Wentz] “Whatever your ideal or your message is, you wish you could just say that and that would be enough, but unfortunately especially in the culture of today everybody wants it to be an away message or a T-shirt slogan, whatever it is. It really helps if there are these bands that people are like, ‘I really think these guys are cool. I really like their songs.’ And then you see then that maybe it’ll put that seed in your head where you’re like, ‘Maybe I’ll do one little thing or whatever.” [Vocalist Patrick Stump] “My other thing too is that I honestly don’t feel it’s the type of thing that… It’s really hard to mobilize a lot of people. I don’t think all of us playing to a bunch of people is going to get… It’s silly to pretend that all this playing is going to inspire every single person that’s there. The thing is that it only takes a few people with really big ideas. If we spread out the influence as much as we can |
Fall Out Boy talked about why they’re doing the show. |
“This is something that we’ve always kind of wanted to be involved in. If you haven’t noticed lately the weather has been a little erratic, and it’s starting to hit everyone in the side of the head. Have you seen the show Ice Trucking? I just want them to have a season two of that and Global Warming definitely impedes that. So, I like the show a lot. The way that this concert is happening worldwide is a huge media event, and there will be way more media attention on this issue and it forces people to see it in Rolling Stone Magazine and all these places, all these outlets, and if you’re bombarded with it you’ll react to it one way or the other no matter what.” |
Fall Out Boy said that they’re part of a new crop of bands like John Mayer, AFI, KT Tunstall, Taking Back Sunday and Kelly Clarkson, that could get through to the younger generation. |
“I mean there’s a lot of amazing bands who really influence people out there, especially the younger kids and younger generation. I think when you get to someone when they’re young enough, it’s really easy to influence them to do the right thing and to help with a cause such as Global Warming.” |
Other artists booked for the Giants Stadium show in New Jersey include Akon, Ludacris, Alicia Keys, Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Waters, Dave Matthews Band, Keith Urban, and others. |
