FAIR TO MIDLAND LOOK TO BROADEN FAN BASE ON 1ST HEADLINING TOUR
Texas rockers, Fair to Midland talk about their 1st headlining tour, which comes on the heels of a very successful tour with Serj Tankian. |
Texas rockers, Fair to Midland have hit the road on their first ever headlining tour and it comes on the heels of a very successful tour with Serj Tankian. Fair to Midland, who are touring in support of their debut release ‘Fables From a Mayfly’ were originally signed to Serj Tankian’s upstart label, Serjical Strike Records. For any band, getting out on the road on their first ever headlining tour is quite a big step up and Fair to Midland are certainly aware of the hard work ahead, trying to broaden their fan base. |
We caught up with vocalist Darroh Sudderth, who continues to draw new fans with his energetic style and his brutal abuse of his body on stage and bassist Jon Dicken to get their thoughts on the band’s first headlining tour. |
“Where we’re at right now, it’s really necessary to expose the band and the music to a new audience. So, I think another one of the down sides of the headlining tour is we’re playing for people that are already familiar with the band and music. Again, we need to open ourselves up to a broader audience and it’s a lot harder to do being on a headlining tour.” |
So what were Fair To Midland’s thoughts on broadening their fan base after hitting North America and Europe as Serj Tankian’s opening act on tour? |
“Especially at the Serj shows, they were packed houses and everyone was into what we were doing, whether they had heard of us or not. It was nothing but positive for us. (Darroh) I think most of it was positive as well because we had Serj’s seal of approval and a lot of those hard core Serj fans were willing to give us a try for that simple reason.” |
Fair to Midland’s headlining tour will conclude December 29th at Fitzgerald’s in Houston, Texas. Fans of the band will be upset to know this will be the first year in a while that Fair to Midland will not be performing at a New Year’s show as the band looks to take a much needed break. Look for the band to announce another round of touring for 2008 hitting the road extensively in the new year. |
