EX-STYX VOCALIST DENNIS DEYOUNG DOES IT HIS WAY
(VIDEO)Dennis DeYoung is set to embark on his next Symphonic tour featuring the songs of Styx. Check out how he feels about the songs and his former band still touring, here! |
Former Styx vocalist Dennis DeYoung, the voice for such Styx hits as “Babe,” “Mr. Roboto,” “Come Sail Away,” and others is taking his orchestra based solo show on the road. He performs Styx classics as well as material from his solo and soundtrack catlog. |
DeYoung talked with us about playing the old Styx songs, and his departure from the band which is carrying on without him. |
“I have to be honest with you, and I have to tell you that what I’m doing, like I said, is I’m on stage playing the songs I wrote and I sang in Styx, and they’re doing a lot of that themselves, on stage playing the songs I wrote and I played in Styx. So that’s pretty much how I would answer that. But, I’m enjoying what I’m doing very much.” |
DeYoung is proud to give Styx fans something different than a traditional rock show, and he said that the music lends itself to combining classical and rock elements. |
“There ain’t never been an orchestra show like this where it combines true rock music with true classical music. I mean, I’ve heard the others. I’m not going to mention any names here because god knows. I’ve heard them. This one is, to me — not because I’m doing it but because I think the music itself lends itself to this. It’s melodic, it’s symphonic in its intent, and it’s pretentious and pompous, which is what classical music is.” |
DeYoung is currently in the midst of a four-night stand in Montreal, Canada and his tour runs through July 29 in Memphis, Tennessee. DeYoung has a DVD of the experience that can be purchased as select stores and on his website, dennisdeyoung.com. |
