Ex-MORCHEEBA SKYE MINDING HOW SHE GOES
(VIDEO) Skye, former lead singer of Morecheeba has released her first solo album, titled ‘Mind How You Go’ and the singer songwriter talks about finally feeling comfortable singing her own songs that are from her heart, right here. |
Skye, perhaps best known as the lead vocalist for the mutli million album selling band, Morecheeba, has released her first solo album, titled ‘Mind How You Go’ and although it wasn’t her idea to leave Morecheeba, she admitted she’s really comfortable finally singing her songs and her lyrics. |
As a matter of fact after she was informed Morecheeba wanted to go in a different direction vocally, she was a little nervous and apprehensive about what to do. But after writing material for her solo album, Skye is finding it easier on stage singing her songs, since she has written all the lyrics from her heart. |
“Paul said that he wanted to take a five year break from Morcheeba. That was around the time we recorded Charango, and at the time I pannicked and I thought, ‘What am I gonna do for five years?’ and then thought, ‘Well, I’ll do a side project.’ And then fast forward to 2003, when I got the call that they wanted to change things and move on without me, so my sideproject of writing songs became more of a focus and became more of a solo album.” |
We also talked to Skye about the songwriting on ‘Mind How You Go’ and since Skye has written all the lyrics from her heart, it’s quite a different experience than singing someone else’s lyrics, like she did in Morecheeba. |
“It is different when you’re in the studio singing your own songs as opposed to singing lyrics that somebody else has written. It’s easier because the lyrics have come from me. I did collaborate, obviously, with Pat Leonard on a few of them, but the general ideas are coming from me. So, it’s easier to sing straight into the microphone and obviously I know what I’m talking about when I’m singing. I know how I’m supposed to feel. But when somebody else has written the lyrics then you have to ask them, ‘What does it mean?’ and you have to learn the emotion behind the song.” |
Skye will be hitting the road in support of ‘Mind How You Go’ as a special guest opening act for Ziggy Marley. The tour will begin November 16th in Norfolk, Virginia and extend until December 8th in Los Angeles, California. |
